väckarklocka?

Inlägg av stellasmama »

Stella has been a very good sleeper with the occassional bad dream peep. Most of the time she sleeps from 7:30 until 7 every night. But 40% of the time she will wake up sometime between 5:45 and 6:30 and play, LOUDLY! This morning she played loudly from 5:45 until 6:50 when I decided I couldn't expect her to go back to sleep anymore. Normally I'll go to the door and give her a morning pang remsa and go back to bed and try to get more sleep usually with ear plugs because she can play very loudly for up to an hour before 7. Sometimes if she wakes up she'll go back to sleep and I'll let her sleep "in" until 7:30 because I can't deal with her crankyness if she's underslept. So I am being inconsistent with her wake up time. I know this. But she is not getting enough sleep otherwise. So, what about setting up a väckarklocka? If she hasn't understood that the morning pangremsa means "Go back to sleep, not play for another half hour and then go back to sleep but sleep until mommy or daddy comes in your room and wakes/gets you"
will she learn to understand that we set the clock for 7 and that means sleep until seven?
When she wakes and plays we get no sleep ourselves. She plays so loudly and we want her of course to get a full nights sleep. Her room is pitch black even when we go to get her in the morning. And we only give the one pang remsa or maybe 2 if it's gone on for half an hour without hope of sleep. Never enter her room until wake up time either.
Anyway, does the väckarklocka work? Has it worked for others for persistant little early risers?

Hi stellasmama :D

You already know that you are inconsistent with her waking time

I got the idéa of a "väckarklocka" from this forum and since we had to do something about Leias early mornings I gave it a go.

Very important is that the "väckarklocka" alone doesn´t do the trick. You have to keep your attitude and your schedule during the day.

I use both "pangramsa" and "väckarklocka" but I do know that AW wrote that perhaps you didn´t need them both. Anyway, do what works for you and Stella.

If Leias wakes up before 06.30 (morning 07.00), I give her a "pangramsa" from my bed.

Don´t be tempted to set the clock later on weekends.

Since "väckarklocka" worked so well for us (and has done so for nearly six months now) I never miss a chance to spread the word

thank you Nancy, yes it was your comments throughout that I got the idea from. Is it like an egg clock, regular alarm clock or is it music she wakes up to? I want to start the clock program in the morning so I have today to concider these options.

A regular alarm clock :D I keep it near my bed since the alarm is loud enough to be heard into Leias room. I let it ring for about 5-10 seconds (or as long as I can stand  ).

several days of waking her with the alarm clock and she was doing really well, waking at 6:30 and pleasantly talking to herself until the alarm rang and we'd go get her. This morning at farmor and farfar's house I heard her wake at 6:30 and she was talking to herself and spat out a couple of "hey come get me!" cries. And in went farfar and got her. I didn't even know he did I thought she might have fallen back asleep. So when the alarm went off I went in to get her and she was gone. :(
He thought he was doing something nice by helping and no I never told him about our new little test with the alarm clock. So this week I will have to make sure that I persist the alarm clock waking so she really understands that's the deal.
